As a teacher, I have received many precious gifts from students. The most extreme was a surprise afternoon off for a massage. (Teachers: make a chart of your room arrangement should parents let things get a little too crazy.) I've gotten requests from parents for teacher gift ideas and I want to assure you it doesn't take money to leave a lasting impression. A gift I'll always treasure is a book made by a kindergarten class called "The ABC's of Mrs.Case." Each page has an alphabet letter with a saying and a drawing. This was accomplished by a secret collaboration of homeroom moms and the art teacher. I received a beautiful hardbound copy. But I would have also cherished a 3-hole punched notebook. It was the thought, effort and time that were greatly appreciated. I added the student's photo on their page. Below are the words for each letter:
K is for Kind - You are very kind to us. |
B is for Beautiful: Mrs. Case is the Most Beautiful Teacher
C is for Caring: Thank you for caring for us.
D is for Determined: You are determined to be the best teacher you can be.
E is for Extraordinary: You are an extraordinary teacher.
F is for Fun: You make learning fun.
G is for Great: You are the Greatest!
H is for Happy: You make us happy.
I is for Ideas: You have the best ideas.
J is for Joy: It is a joy to have you as our teacher
K is for Kind: You are very kind to us.
L is for Love: We love you.
M is for Magnificent: You are magnificent.
N is for Nice: It is nice to be in your class.
O is for only: You only have our best interest at heart.
P is for Patient: Thanks for your patience with us.
Q is for Queen: You are the queen of our class.
R is for ready: You make us ready to learn.
S is for sad: We are sad you will not be our teacher next year.
T is for Terrific Teacher: You are a terrific teacher.
U is for unbeatable: Mrs. Case, you are unbeatable.
V is for Very: You are the very best teacher.
W is for Wonderful: You are wonderful.
X is for X-ray: If you x-rayed your heart, you would find a big smile.
Y is for Yell: You never yell at us.
Z is for Zip-pa-di-do-da: Zip-pa-di-day We love you!
F is for Fun: You Make Learning Fun
- Another memorable gift I received was a small photograph album of pictures taken by parents during the school year at field trips, holiday parties, and school activities.
- I still have cards from parents writing to let me know that they thought I was the perfect teacher for their child and how much they appreciated their growth and learning. Students sometimes told me I was their best teacher ever. "Have you had any other teachers?" I would ask. "No, but we know you are the best." This is the reward you receive from working with young (first-time) students.
- I also cherish the signed drawings by students with "I Luv U Ms Cas." Priceless.

DeleteGreat ideas! We did a hardbound book for my daughter's daycare provider for Christmas one year. We had all the kids say what they liked about the daycare lady and turned their quotes into a book with their photos. Thanks for linking up to Fun Stuff Fridays on Toys In The Dryer.

ReplyDeleteTulip - thanks so much. Hope you are doing great. You have a very interesting blog. Have a great day.
DeleteIn the past, I have had young child draw a picture and invited them to copy words on an empty scrapbook page. Then I add their picture. On the 1st page, I include 1 or 2 general class pictures, the teacher's name, the year and the school mascot.
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful idea. I forgot to mention that I added the student's school photo on their page. Thank you so much for reminding me to put that and for visiting.
DeleteI have to agree that words of gratitude and heartfelt thoughtfulness are the ones that you remember the most. I'd love for you to share this on my Ideas Teacher Gifts Link Up. http://theeducatorsspinonit.blogspot.com/2012/04/thank-you-gift-ideas-for-your-childs.html
